Central Sector Scheme of Scholarship for college and university students (PM-USPCSSS)
Objective of National Scholarship Program
The main objective of PM-USPCSSS scheme is to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from families of financially backward classes in order to meet there day to day expenses while pursuing higher studies.
Scope of PM-USPCSSS
The scholarships will be awarded on the basis of results in higher secondary or class XII board examination or equivalent examination. The ministry of education,Government of India will provide these scholarships. A maximum of 82000 fresh scholarships are provided for pursuing graduation or post-graduation degree courses in colleges and universities and for professional courses such as medical, engineering etc.
Scholarship allocation
The total number of scholarships are divided amongst the State Education Boards Based On the state’s population in the age group of 18 to 25 years. Students passed out from CBSE and ICSE boards are segregated with the number of students passed out from various state’s boards in the country. 50% of the scholarships are reserved for girls. 3% slots shall be reserved for the students from Ladakh out of the slots earmarked for the students from UT’s of Jammu and Kashmir and Ladakh. The number of scholarships allotted to state education board will be distributed amongst the students of Humanities, Science and Commerce in the ratio of three is 3:3:1.
Eligibility required for National Scholarship
a)80% and above marks in class twelve of 10+2 pattern or equivalent.
b) Persuing regular degree course. Degree courses in correspondence or distance mode is not eligible.
c) Colleges or institutions must be recognized by All India Council For Technical Education and respective regulatory bodies concerned.
d) Not availing benefit of any other scholarship including state run scholarship scheme or reimbursement scheme.
e) Student’s family income up to Rs.4.5 Lakh per annum are eligible for scholarship.
Renewal of scholarship
For renewal of scholarship in each year of study besides getting at least 50% marks in the annual examination, maintenance of adequate attendance of at least seventy five percent will also be the Criteria.
Students who missed to apply for renewal of application online on NSP will be allowed to apply for renewal of scholarship for subsequent.Year on NSP.
Applicants under the scheme must be apply online in the national scholarships portal i.e. www.scholarships.gov.in for the fresh or renewal scholarships.
Reservation
15% seats are earmarked for SCs, 7.5% for STs and 27% for OBCs and 5% horizontal reservation for students with benchmark disabilities (Disability of 40% or more).
The Central Reservation Policy will be applicable in filling the slots of respective year’s target. If slots under a specific group is not filled after considering all states or UTs, the vacant slots will be allocated to other categories so that maximum number of students can avail the benefit.
Rate and duration of scholarship
i) Graduation level for first three years of college and university courses is Rs.12000/- per annum.
ii) Post graduation level Rs.20000/- per annum.
iii) Professional courses where duration of course is five years or integrated course will get Rs.20000/- per annum in the 4th and 5th year.
iv) Technical courses such as B.Tech, BEngg. will get Rs.12000/- per annum upto graduation level only i.e. for first, second and third year Rs.20000/- per annum for fourth year.
Payment of scholarship
The scholarship will be disbursed directly into the savings bank account of the beneficiaries through the Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) mode. Students are required to have a savings bank account,especially in their name for availing the benefit under the scheme.

Procedure of application
The applications are received in online mode only on National scholarships Portal (NSP). www.scholarships.gov.in
The guidelines for application, verification, selection and disbursement of scholarship will be as per the NSP.
